Settlers’ Violence a Systematic Aggression against the Palestinian People
Aug 6, 2023
The Planning & International Cooperation Bureau follows the escalating attacks by settlers against our people in the occupied West Bank. The latest incident was the aggression on the village of Burqa, east of Ramallah on the evening of Friday, August 4, 2023, which resulted in the death of the Palestinian youth, Qusi Jamal Matar (19 years old), and injuries to others.
These attacks are, in essence, brutal and deliberate aggression sponsored by the extremist Israeli government under the leadership of “Netanyahu” and driven by terrorists like “Ben Gvir” and “Smotrich.” Moreover, they represent a form of apartheid, as settlers rely on the power of the army and police to oppress the indigenous people.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) confirmed in a recent report that nearly 600 attacks have been carried out by settlers against Palestinians and their properties in the occupied West Bank since the beginning of this year, representing a 39% increase in the monthly average of attacks compared to the previous year. Additionally, the Wall and Settlement Resistance Authority documented in its report the martyrdom of 8 civilians at the hands of settlers in the first half of this year.
The Planning & International Cooperation Bureau condemns these barbaric attacks and calls on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities by pressuring the occupation state and its extremist government to cease their racist and settlement policies against the Palestinian people. They should be held legally, internationally, and ethically accountable for their flagrant violations of international law and human rights.
