Aggression on Jenin: A Dangerous Escalation Threatening a Humanitarian Crisis
July 3, 2023
The Israeli occupation still continues its heinous crimes against our defenseless people in the occupied West Bank. This morning, the occupation forces heavily armed with tanks and armored vehicles and supported by aircrafts, invaded the Jenin refugee camp, bringing back the memories of the Jenin massacre in 2002. The aggression was accompanied by savage aerial bombardment, targeting the camp’s service center and other civilian facilities. As of the time of writing this statement, 8 Palestinians have been killed and dozens have been injured, including many in critical condition.
The size and nature of the forces mobilized by the occupation army indicate its criminal intentions and desire to commit a real massacre in the narrow alleys of the defenseless camp, which does not exceed one square kilometer in space and is home to over 27,000 refugees. In view of this painful scene, the Planning & International Cooperation Bureau warns of a real humanitarian crisis due to the continued bombing and aggression, coupled with the closure of the camp, and the occupation’s hindrance of ambulances reaching the injured and wounded.
The criminal behavior of the extremist right-wing government towards our people in the Jenin camp will undoubtedly lead to a real humanitarian disaster and a dangerous deterioration in security conditions. Therefore, at the Planning and International Cooperation Bureau, we appeal to the international community in all its components to swiftly intervene and halt this aggression, putting an end to the racist policies of the occupation before the entire region descends into a bloodbath.
