MOFA Calls for Addressing the Causes of Aggression
May 14, 2023
Mediation efforts succeeded yesterday evening, Saturday, May 14, in stopping the “Israeli” aggression on the Gaza Strip after 5 days of barbaric bombing which left 33 people dead, including 6 children and 4 women, in addition to more than 190 wounded. The aggression also caused massive destruction to residential houses and infrastructure, completely destroyed 93 housing units, severely damaged 128 housing units, and partially damaged about 1800 others. It also resulted in major economic losses, estimated at 10 million USD every day, due to the disruption of economic activities.
The repeated aggression over short periods of time obligates the international community and the mediators to address the causes of the aggression and prevent its recurrence. This starts with ending the occupation, establishing the Palestinian state with its capital in Jerusalem, bringing the occupation leaders, most notably Mr. Crime Minister “Netanyahu”, to justice, forcing the occupation to stop the targeted assassination policy in Gaza Strip and occupied West Bank, stopping the violations against the Palestinian prisoners and the holy sites, especially Al-Aqsa Mosque, lifting the 17-year long siege imposed on Gaza Strip, and stopping the unlimited support by the West to the occupation state.
This aggression puts the international community and the international donors in front of serious moral responsibilities, i.e., reconstructing the destroyed houses and damaged infrastructure, compensating the affected people, especially those who lost their houses and were turned homeless, and offering real guarantees that the occupation will not wage new aggression against the Palestinian people.
