The Continued Aggression for Fourth Day Threatens an Imminent Humanitarian Crisis
May 12, 2023; 16:00
The “Israeli occupation” continues for the fourth day its brutal aggression against our people in the Gaza Strip, while the toll of the aggression has increased to 31 martyrs, including 6 children and 4 women, and more than 100 injuries; half of them are women and children, in addition to the partial or complete destruction of 314 housing units.
This aggression comes in conjunction with a complete closure of the Gaza Strip crossings, preventing the movement of basic humanitarian supplies, such as food, fuel, and medical equipment as well as patients and international journalists.
In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs warns of an imminent humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip due to the closure of crossings, amid serious concerns that the sole power plant in the Gaza Strip might stop running within the next 72 hours as a result of the lack of fuel. The stop of the plant will leave dire impacts on the work of hospitals, public institutions, water pumps, and sanitation facilities.
The Ministry also calls on the international community and rights groups to exert maximum pressure on the occupation’s authorities to open the crossings in front of the movement of patients and humanitarian cases, as every minute of delay may impact their chances of survival.
The occupation’s refusal to allow the entry of diplomats and international journalists into Gaza is, in fact, an attempt to cover the truth of the horrible crimes committed in the Gaza Strip under the false pretext of “self-defense”.
We renew our call to the international community to interfere immediately to stop the aggression. We also highlight the fact that the occupation is the driver of aggression, whether in the meantime, in the past, or in the future. The time has come to end the occupation, lift the Gaza blockade, and establish our independent state with its capital in Jerusalem.
