Occupation steps towards Palestinian prisoners are a stark violation of international law and agreements
March 02, 2023
The occupation’s government, led by the extremists “Netanyahu” and “Ben Gvir”, is cracking down on Palestinian prisoners through a number of provocative steps, such as the prevention of family visits with proper justifications, taking away heavy winter clothes, restricting the amount of water, limiting showering hours, not to mention increased inspection, regular suppression, and solitary confinement. This racist campaign reached unprecedented heights yesterday with the approval of the preliminary reading of a law that allows capital punishment for Palestinian prisoners.
These abusive steps are a stark violation of international law and international humanitarian law, especially the third and fourth Geneva Conventions. They are also a true representation of the racist reality of the occupation’s government and its criminal intentions regarding our people. However, these procedures didn’t come out of nowhere; on the contrary, they are a direct result of the utter silence of the international community on this extremist government and the lack of action to end its racist policies.
The prisoners are regarded as a very sensitive and fundamental issue by the Palestinian people, and therefore, any attempt to harm them might drag the region into a bloody conflict. Therefore, the international community should intervene immediately to protect the Palestinian prisoners, and obligate the occupation state to the principles of international law and international conventions.
