Press Release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on World Refugee Day
June 20, 2022
The world commemorates today, June 20, the annual anniversary of World Refugee Day in order to highlight the suffering of the refugees and mobilize the efforts to alleviate their suffering. However, this day brings sad memories to the Palestinian people who were displaced from their homes 74 years ago and turned into “refugees” ever since. As a result of the inaction of the international community and its complicit policies with the occupation state, Palestinians started to inherit the status of “refugees” generation after generation; a status that only grants them nothing but scarce food rations and shanty houses.
On the anniversary of World Refugee Day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would like to stress the Palestinians’ right to return to their homes, a right granted by all religions, laws, and even UN resolutions. Palestinians have the ultimate right to dignified living on their ancestral land. The international community is demanded to stand up to its obligations and fulfill its promises towards refugees by granting them a proper life until their return to their homeland and forcing the occupation state to adopt UN resolutions regarding the refugees.
