Closing Karm Abu Salem Crossing to Exports a New Episode of Siege
Sep 5, 2023
The Israeli occupation authorities continue to tighten the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip for over 16 years. Just yesterday, under flimsy pretexts, they decided to close the Karm Abu Salem crossing to goods leaving Gaza. This escalatory step will have serious negative repercussions on the already deteriorating economic conditions in the Gaza Strip, amidst unprecedented levels of poverty, unemployment, and food insecurity.
Based on false pretexts, this decision is nothing but a continuation of the collective punishment policy pursued by the occupation authorities against the Gaza Strip. It also reflects a complete disregard for international laws and conventions. Therefore, the Planning and International Cooperation Bureau calls on the international community to urgently intervene and pressure the occupation to reverse this dangerous escalatory move. We also call for the lifting of the blockade on the Gaza Strip once and for all.
